CATALOGUE NOTE

In the doghouse: Oleg Kulik's zoophilia photos seized by police at FIAC

Khripun and Selina had their coats on and the police were escorting them toward the stairs. One of the flics lunged out at a middle-aged tourist with a camera, grabbing him by the forearm. "What did I say? No pictures!"

"Why not?" said the well-dressed woman. "Is this a police state? Are we sheep? Are we just going to bend over and take this?"

Gucci x Louis Vuitton x Diddo Velema Gas Mask

We are in a state of perpetual war – with ourselves and with the eco-system that sustains us. Perpetual war breeds perpetual fear. In the present context, this fear stems from our extreme desire for authenticity and manifests itself in our collectively insatiable culture of consumption.

Deep down, we are afraid we may never be satisfied. An expanding archive of branded myths and icons feeds this fear. Designer Gas Masks is an attempt to visualize this state of mind. Because it is only by first acknowledging and then challenging fear that we will all be able to breathe a little easier.

Designer Gas Masks is a conceptual art project. The masks are not real commercial products. They're made for gallery purposes only.

ABC3D pop-up book

http://www.abc3dbook.com Preorders available!

ONE OF THE MOST DELIGHTFUL AND INNOVATIVE POP-UP BOOKS I HAVE EVER SEEN.—Robert Sabuda

From the lenticular cover that changes with the angle of your hands, all the way to the Z, ABC3D is as much a work of art as it is a pop-up book. Each of the 26 dimensional letters move and change before your eyes. C turns into D with a snap. M stands at attention. X becomes Y with a flick of the wrist. And then there's U... Boldly conceived and brilliantly executed with a striking black, red, and white palette, this is a book that readers and art lovers of all ages will treasure for years to come.

MARION BATAILLE is graphic and book designer who has never before been published in this country. She lives in Paris. This is just a hand-made mock-up of the actual book which publishes in Oct. 2008. We couldn't be more excited about it.

Also for those asking that's the incredible 30's trio The Boswell Sisters singing "Roll On"

Sales Underwhelm at Art Auctions

Adding to speculation about how the worldwide economic downturn will affect next month’s big auctions in New York, two sales abroad drew disappointing numbers. On Tuesday an auction of Islamic and Indian art at Christie’s in London sold just 47 percent of its 439 lots, Bloomberg News reported. The auction generated total sales of $18.1 million, according to Bloomberg; a similar auction at Christie’s in April generated $20.5 million from 282 lots. On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported, Sotheby’s in Hong Kong had lower sales than expected at the end of a five-day auction of Asian art. The auction was expected to yield about $257 million, but garnered $141.7 million from a sale of 1,700 items.

Causa Sui: Summer Sessions vol 1

Causa Sui presents "Summer Sessions"

Aloha!

Finally some new Causa Sui material will be released! The new album, entitled "Summer Sessions vol. 1", will be released on vinyl only on Elektrohasch in August and is the first in a series of loose, experimental albums. The album consists of four long, instrumental pieces - one of them a 25 minute excursion - and sees Causa Sui break into new territories, experimenting with kraut-rock electronics and elements of proto-fusion jazz as well as the more familiar fuzz-guitar journeys and stoner riffs.

We really got exhausted after working on new material after Free Ride, not really getting anywhere with the songs, so last summer we decided to turn things around for a while. The result was a new working method which demanded immediate action from all involved parties and didn't set any limits for sound and style. Basically we recorded hours and hours of free jams and loosely structured songs, some of them very different in style and tone than the two first albums. Some of the pieces ended up sounding very unique and genrebending, others just plain boring. Now we have put the first collection together of what we consider some of the most interesting results from the sessions.

derÄsthet reviewed: Gschu - "A Picture You`re Not In"
