Every track comes to life while playing and searching, and that’s exactly what you hear on the biggest part of this record. Small coincidences push the musicians in a certain direction, and because of this the outcome never sounds artificial or far-fetched. Most of the times Silvester Anfang is joined by self-declared non-musicians, which results in long sessions with a maximum of openness and freedom. A warm and organic sound and lo-fi recording quality have been priorities since day one. Some people see this as an attitude, other people blame it on the fact that they only have a 4-track and one recording mic. Sie bieten auf einen Karton unbekannten Inhaltes und unbekannten Maßes. Dieser Karton wird dem Künstler Valentin Ruhry am Samstag dem 21. Oktober um 10:00 im Rahmen eines Kunst-Wettbewerbes in Wien ausgehändigt. Der mit verschiedenen Materialien gefüllte Karton steht dem Künstler für eine freie Arbeit zur Verfügung. Der Karton wird vom Künstler allerdings nicht geöffnet, sondern lediglich signiert und datiert.
Gemeinsam mit zwölf anderen österreichischen geladenen KünstlerInnen, die alle unter den selben Bedingungen antreten, muss Ruhry eine dreiköpfige Jury von der Qualität seiner Arbeit überzeugen. Die Jury besteht aus dem österreischischen Künstler Michael Kienzer und der Autorin, Kulturmanagerin und Kuratorin Doris Rothauer ("Kreativität & Kapital").

In einem permanenten Frage- und Antwortspiel was Skulptur ist und wie sie sich konstituiert, arbeitet Erwin Wurm seit über 25 Jahren an einem vielschichtigen Werk, das als durchgehendes Forschungsprojekt zum Skulpturenbegriff interpretiert werden kann. Für Wurm, der heute zu den erfolgreichsten Gegenwartskünstlern zählt, kann alles zur Skulptur werden: Handlungen, geschriebene oder gezeichnete Anweisungen oder selbst ein Gedanke. Seine Kunst handelt vielfach von elementaren wie banalen Lebensbedürfnissen und – abläufen, sowie von deren Perversionen, die in physischen Deformationen zum Ausdruck kommen können. Der Künstler thematisiert Schlankheitswahn und Fettsucht, Mode, Werbung und Konsumkult, zu dessen zentralen Fetischen das Eigenheim wie auch das Auto zählen. Die Ausstellung zeigt mit mehr als 400 Zeichnungen, Videos, Fotografien und Skulpturen die bisher umfangreichste Werkschau des Künstlers.
Seine jüngste aufsehenerregende Arbeit – das weithin sichtbare Objekt „House Attack“ ist an der Außenfassade des MUMOK installiert: Ein Einfamilienhaus als Symbol von Alltäglichkeit, Privatheit aber auch Kleingeistigkeit schlägt wie eine Bombe in die Fassade des Museums - des institutionalisierten Musentempels - ein. „House Attack“ ist in der visuellen Präsenz und seiner ambivalenten Metaphorik exemplarisch für die aktuelle Werkentwicklung des Künstlers, die einen Schwerpunkt der Ausstellung bildet.

If the origin of my work is a scandal, it is because, for me, the world is a scandal.
One of the most accomplished draughtsmen of the 20th century, Hans Bellmer was born in 1902 and worked in Berlin until 1938. He defied the Fascist state in which he lived by withdrawing from any socially useful activity developing a life-long project that became a powerful tool for social critique and a violent attack on stereotypes and the promotion of an idealised Aryan race.
In 1933, coinciding with the rise of Hitler and the Third Reich, Bellmer created his first doll – a life-size wooden and metal skeleton clad with plaster, which he repeatedly photographed in fragmented poses and haunting scenarios. He moved to Paris in 1938, where he immediately befriended the Surrealists including Paul Eluard, Yves Tanguy, Hans Arp and Max Ernst, sharing their fascination with childhood, play, psychoanalysis, Eros and death. These offered an opposition to a complacent, bourgeois, judgemental approach to the world.
Described as an anatomist, an engineer, even a geographer or cartographer of the body, until his death in 1975 Bellmer produced sculptures, photographs, books and etchings in addition to theoretical and poetic writings; and an outpouring of drawings in an obsessive quest for a monstrous dictionary dedicated to the ambivalence of the body. He pushed the boundaries of bodily representation, as Hieronymus Bosch and Giuseppe Arcimboldo had done earlier, to create an epic myth around the anatomy of the image. Bellmer’s numerous drawings developed from naturalistic portraits to images of tangled limbs that dissolve into near-biomorphic abstractions, fusing male and female forms to create ambiguous, fluid organisms. Hypnotic in its dazzling technique, Bellmer’s intricate depictions of often violent sexual fantasies calls into question the relation between individual pleasure and received ideas, indulgence and responsibility.

Leider war die Messe sehr enttäuschend und hat mit teuren, uninspirierten Objekten meine hohen Erwartungen leider komplett zerstört. Absurd schwach war die langweilige, mit billigen Quelle-Katalog-Models billig inszenierte Modenschau. Dafür noch extra Geld zu verlangen war ein Scherz.
Zeit und Geldverschwendung mit wenigen Ausnahmen (von denen ich bereits Fotos auf meinen Flickr-Account gestellt habe.

Why I Love Vinyl
Fantastischer Post im Forum von Southern Lord über die "Vinyl Begeisterung"
1. I love being able to hold the artwork with both hands and stare at the cover while the record plays. How many hours have I spent doing this with the Hell Awaits lp? The Axegrinder gatefold? I don't need to know. The Otesanek/Coffins split lp (should it ever come out) was designed specifically with this purpose in mind.
2. I love that the medium does not allow music to fall into the background. I don't mind turning the record over or re-starting a side because it a) incorporates me physically and directly into the listening experience and b) forces me to pay attention. Not to say that I need to be forced to pay attention to music I love, but distractions are abundant.
3. I love knowing that with each play, the record deteriorates a tiny bit. That each record's life is finite. That it won't sound the same every time I play it. That the more I love it, the quicker it fades.
4. I love that the sun forces it's way through my one non-blacked out window, reflects off of the spinning vinyl, and leaves a odd, undulating display on my ceiling. Sometimes I put on records that compliment the display and lie on the floor looking at it.
5. I love the inscriptions that are etched into the inner ring of the vinyl...often inside jokes. I love that one of my Drop Bass 12"s (can't remember which) has "DON'T FUCK WITH CHICAGO" etched into it.
6. I love the pops and hiss of worn records. It adds a layer of character which has the potential to enhance the substance of the lp. The audio equivalent of reading a dusty old tome. I also love that dirt on a record does not cause it to malfunction, but rather the dirt is translated into the audio experience itself. Sometimes this is desireable (I never clean my Sabbath records because I like what the filth adds), sometimes not (I frequently clean my hip hop 12"s because the dirt is unnecessary and distracting). Either way, it's a fascinating concept to me.
7. I love the sound of the needle hitting the vinyl. I often use the first track off of an lp at the beginning of mixtapes so as to incorporate this sound.
8. I love that the medium allows for different playing configurations. Intertwined grooves, reverse-grooves, lock-grooves, and so on. Novelty maybe, but I still love it.
9. I love the soft flapping sound of flipping through stacks and stacks of records. It's oddly comforting to me, particularly during long periods of depression. 10. I love the concept of vinyl analog. That some of the most emotionally-charged sounds I know of can be faithfully recreated by a physical point being dragged through a forged path.
1. I love being able to hold the artwork with both hands and stare at the cover while the record plays. How many hours have I spent doing this with the Hell Awaits lp? The Axegrinder gatefold? I don't need to know. The Otesanek/Coffins split lp (should it ever come out) was designed specifically with this purpose in mind.
2. I love that the medium does not allow music to fall into the background. I don't mind turning the record over or re-starting a side because it a) incorporates me physically and directly into the listening experience and b) forces me to pay attention. Not to say that I need to be forced to pay attention to music I love, but distractions are abundant.
3. I love knowing that with each play, the record deteriorates a tiny bit. That each record's life is finite. That it won't sound the same every time I play it. That the more I love it, the quicker it fades.
4. I love that the sun forces it's way through my one non-blacked out window, reflects off of the spinning vinyl, and leaves a odd, undulating display on my ceiling. Sometimes I put on records that compliment the display and lie on the floor looking at it.
5. I love the inscriptions that are etched into the inner ring of the vinyl...often inside jokes. I love that one of my Drop Bass 12"s (can't remember which) has "DON'T FUCK WITH CHICAGO" etched into it.
6. I love the pops and hiss of worn records. It adds a layer of character which has the potential to enhance the substance of the lp. The audio equivalent of reading a dusty old tome. I also love that dirt on a record does not cause it to malfunction, but rather the dirt is translated into the audio experience itself. Sometimes this is desireable (I never clean my Sabbath records because I like what the filth adds), sometimes not (I frequently clean my hip hop 12"s because the dirt is unnecessary and distracting). Either way, it's a fascinating concept to me.
7. I love the sound of the needle hitting the vinyl. I often use the first track off of an lp at the beginning of mixtapes so as to incorporate this sound.
8. I love that the medium allows for different playing configurations. Intertwined grooves, reverse-grooves, lock-grooves, and so on. Novelty maybe, but I still love it.
9. I love the soft flapping sound of flipping through stacks and stacks of records. It's oddly comforting to me, particularly during long periods of depression. Die Songs überzeugen, dennoch finde ich 2 Songs-Vinyl releases immer ein wenig schwach und das Package ist auch nicht so bemüht, wie im "Pressetext" beschrieben. Muss man nicht unbedingt haben - eher für die Die-Hard's.

The A-side is a beautiful piano and vocal piece by Jarboe, with accompanying guitar from collabroator Nic Le Ban. The B-side introduces her new free-collective, The Sweet Meat Love And Holy Cult. The result being a 10-piece mantric improv freak-out. Fantastic.
We're sure Jarboe needs no introduction to most after her heritage with Swans and her acclaimed solo works, the staggering collaborations with Neurosis and last year's highly praised "The Men Album".

Sehr interessanter junger Künstler, der entsprechend prominent auch von Galerie Adler vertreten wird. Ich denke, dass eine erfolgreiche künstlerische wie auch finanzielle Zukunft zu erwarten ist - macht Sinn sich früh finanziell an seinem Aufstieg zu beteiligen.
Die Experimentierfreudigkeit und Vielseitigkeit, die in den Arbeiten Peter Feilers (*1981, Halle an der Saale) zum Vorschein kommen, machen seine Arbeiten schwer greifbar. Doch die Fülle von Themen, von orgiastischen über ganze Weltsysteme bis hin zu einer beiläufigen Kritik der hoch intellektualisierten Egomanie der Gegenwart (das Paradoxon einer individualisierten Gesellschaft, 2001), die er wie in einem Wirbel in seinen bis ins kleinste Detail ausgearbeiteten Bildern behandelt, drehen sich um das zentrale Thema der Abgründe des menschlichen Seins.
Durch das ungewöhnliche Medium Buntstift relativiert Peter Feiler seine Groteskerien mit einer pastellartigen Farbigkeit und gibt dem brisanten Topos dessen, „was der Mensch dem Menschen antun kann“ (Peter Feiler) eine unschuldig-kindliche Patina, die in starkem Kontrast zu den anzüglichen, fast pornografischen Posen mancher seiner Protagonisten steht.

Blutgasse@Vienna, Austria
Das Blutgassenviertel unmittelbar hinter dem Stephansdom zählt zu den geschichtsträchtigsten Orten in Wien. Die Blutgasse an sich verbindet die Singerstrasse mit der Domgasse und mündet in diese beim Figarohaus, wo Mozart einen Teil seines Lebens verbrachte und viele seiner grössten Werke schrieb.
Links und rechts der mit Backsteinen besetzten Blutgasse klaffen Fassaden uralter Häuser in die Höhe. Sie gehören zu den ältesten in Wien, zumindest die Fundamente, welche aus dem 12. Jrh. stammen. Das Blutgassenviertel besteht aus sieben Altbaukomplexen, mitunter dem Fähnrichshof (Häuser 3-9). Von der Domgasse her kommend befindet sich auf der linken Seite etwa auf halber Strecke zur Singerstrasse ein Durchgang, welcher zu architektonisch sehr bemerkenswert angelegten Innenhöfen führt mit romantischen Laubengängen, Treppen, Balkonen und Durchgängen mit viel Grün. Der Besucher gelangt so auf Umwegen zur Singerstrasse oder zur parallel verlaufenden Grünangergasse. Es befinden sich hier einige Künstlerateliers.
Die Namensgebung der Blutgasse ist historisch nicht belegt, und es geistern um sie mehrere Legenden. Eine davon besagt, dass hier im Mittelalter Schlachträume gewesen seien, von denen das Blut durch Rinnen in die Gasse geleitet wurde und abfloss. Eine andere erzählt von der Begebenheit, dass im Fähnrichshof im Jahre 1312 während der Auflösung des französischen Ritterordens der Tempelherren zahlreiche Templer abgeschlachtet worden seien, dass die ganze Gasse von mit ihrem blut getränkt war. Diese Legenden wurden jedoch von Historikern als unwahr erklärt. Im Jahre 1550 taucht erstmals der Name „Plutgessel“ auf. Zuvor trug die Gasse den Namen „Kothgässel“. Im Mittelalter brachte man die Toiletten in den Innenhöfen an über bis zu acht Metern tiefen Gruben. Davon schuf man gleich mehrere, damit - wenn eine voll war - man jeweils die nächste benutzen konnte, bis die andere geräumt war. Man kannte auch die sog. Toilettenerker an der Hauswand, wobei die Exkremente direkt auf die Strasse oder in den Garten fielen.
Daneben gab es auch Latrinen, bei denen die Exkremente durch eine Röhre in einen unterirdisch angebrachten Kasten flossen. Diese Kästen wurden normalerweise einmal pro Jahr geleert. Mit dieser Aufgabe wurden jeweils unehrliche Leute bedacht. Sie mussten den Inhalt der Kästen in Bächen entsorgen.
